Mira & Kabir
Monsoon Light in an Ancestral Chettinad Mansion
There is a quiet reverence that arrives with monsoon rain across rural Tamil Nadu. When Mira and Kabir chose an ancestral 120-year-old mansion in Kadiapatti for their celebration, their wish was simple: to let the day unfold naturally, without choreographed entrances, artificial smoke, or scripted moments.
The ceremony took place in the central sunlit courtyard, open to the elements as raindrops tapped against Spanish roof tiles and pooled into carved stone drains. From dawn mangala snanam lit solely by brass kuthuvilakku lamps to the gentle, unscripted moment Mira’s grandmother draped the crimson silk saree across her shoulders, our cameras stayed quiet and unobtrusive.
As dusk fell, sixty close friends and family gathered across Athangudi-tiled verandas for a feast served on banana leaves. No stage, no barriers — just intimate conversations, impromptu carnatic violin jams, and midnight dancing under the stormy southern sky.
